Of course there are problems to be had, this time with the local hired guns who have started to turn to lawlessness. Lucas takes on the task of getting things back into order, and like a true bad@$$ he goes it alone. Luckily Nellie is there for the times he does not help.So far the Lucas Wade series has struck me as a well-written return to classic Western literature. The sequel ramps it up a bit, and there's even more action and I daresay the story moves at a swifter pace. Lucas serves as the perfect protagonist, doing things his own way and managing to restore some law to the town. He doesn't mince words, so he earns himself some enemies and rivals. Although he acts like a lone wolf, he does have a noticeable soft spot for Nellie. It was nice to see their relationship continue to grow, and provided a little break from the action here and there. Nellie is encouraged to try to making something more of herself, even despite the racism and sexism she encounters, and she in turn tries to help Lucas out when she can.Gunfighters Justice is a well written western novel that packs in adventure, dusty besieged towns, and rough-and-tumble saloons. A nice escape and a great read.

By Julie Blaskie The continuing adventure of Lucas Wade is even more enjoyable than its predecessor! Wade accepts a new assignment to help a town when hired guns start to get out of hand - and he brings Nellie Washington with him as well! The previous marshall was killed by the unruly, so Wade is very aware of the situation at hand... It is a big job for a good man...Raylan McCrae has written a wonderful old school Western story with characters you love and cheer for... and others you hope they get what they deserve! Lucas Wade is a quiet hero who sees himself as just a regular man trying to do the right thing and set things right. He respects women and feels their honor must be preserved at all costs. He is a man's man; yet, he shows restraint in his relationship with young Nellie. He tries to encourage to strive for more than what is usual for young girls of her background. She's a tough young lady who had faced a lot in her short life, and she wants to be even more for Wade. In this story, we see Nellie strive to do more and try to take on more responsibility as she sees the mess that Wade has walked into. I was happy to see Nellie step forward and do what was necessary... when the time was right. This book takes us back to a time where there was lawlessness in some areas of the old West. It's a time where honor, respect, honesty, courage, and determination are the norms - and desired traits. It's a time where the lines between what is good and what isn't were much clearer than today. It's a simpler yet rougher time. People faced situations where they ended up doing things they had never thought they would do. This story gives you the feel that you were there back then...We have saloons and gunfighters... banks and businessmen... inns and restaraunts... a jail and a church... a store and stables... There are people trying to go about their business, and there are those who like to make trouble just for the sake of the attention it brings. This is the backdrop where some gunfighters learn the hard way what justice is... that they will not be allowed to prey on the weak!I love Westerns for the reasons mentioned above, and I love Raylan McCrae's stories because he has created a story in the tradition of the great old Westerns! His style helps you get lost in the story... It's a great escape! I had been waiting for this story to see what would happen next to Wade...Now? I'm hoping there will be yet another continuation in this saga in the near future! I was given a free copy of thos book in exchange for an honest review.

Whereas there are quite a lot of things that I disliked about this book By Amazon Customer GUNFIGHTER’S JUSTICE is the second book in the Lucas Wade Series. A gun for hire that is hired by the council members of Springfield Illinois to act as Marshal to bring order back to their town. Whereas there are quite a lot of things that I disliked about this book. I will touch upon the few things I liked about it. Even though there are parts that feel like there should be more. The main character is written just enough that you know who he is, but it is the supporting and side characters that are more personable. The story flow fits with the actions going on at the time and picking up when it is needed. The writing style seems to jump around without letting you known that the scene has shifted and there are parts of the story that read like filler, making it confusing and hard to follow on what is going on at the time. There is some minor editing errors but they do not hinder the reader. And now for the cover, it fits, it tells me upon looking at it that it is Western genre, and thus I expect the story to be set within the wild west time period. As for what I did not like about this book, as I said there was quite a lot, I will only touch up on bits and pieces. This book is about Wade Lucas, the main character, the hero of the story and the most underwritten character of the book. He is suppose to be this brilliant gunman but he acts like he is missing a few screws. He is hired as the Marshal and instead of locating the Jail House right away he takes his female companion out to dinner to the wonderful little diner called the BLS. Even when he brings in the two bank robbers he went to retrieve, he forgets he has them. He only remembers when his horse kicks at one of their horses. Back to the dinner, every other business in this town has nice names but the diner is not given that privilege. The menu just does not fit within the time period and location of the town, it is like the diner has electricity and that would not be available. The only time that any of the food fits within the time period is when the owner of the diner makes breakfast. I could continue on about everything I did not like about this book, but I will refrain from talking about the rest of my dislikes. In truth if I had read the first book this one may of made more sense. However, it is a good book and readers, teenage and up, would be more preferable readers due to some of the content with more disturbing subject matter.
