The story takes place over 11 years and involves Hailey, her best friend Marcus and her brother's best friend Cory. Hailed has been in love with Cory from the moment he walked into her house with her big brother. She knows nothing will ever come of it but she still dreams of what it would be like to be with him. Marcus has been her best friend since forever. They spend their summers at the beach together and as they go through their teen years, they experience many firsts together. He is her rock---always there to support her and lift her up. And he has been in love with her all along. Unbeknownst to Hailey, Cory has fallen in love with her but doesn't act on it because of their age difference (8 years!) and the fact that he is her brother's best friend. When he finally gives in, he breaks Hailey's 18 year old heart and Marcus is there to pick up the pieces as always. When the book flashes forward 5 years, Hailey is interning at her father's law firm with Cory as her mentor. What happens when you face the one man that you have loved for the past 11 years who hurt you in the worst way? How does it play out when you are with another man who you love and has loved you his entire life? I wasn't sure which man to root for in this book because both seemed perfect for Hailey. I didn't want to see either of them hurt but she could only choose one man. In the end, she does what is right for her and she gets her HEA with the man she loves. I'm looking forward to the next book!

I am from New England and I could visualize everything the author was describing from the carefree summers at the beach, fireworks, and summer crushes. I also found Hailey relatable as a New England girl who is a little stubborn, witty, and holds her own with the guys. I loved Marcus as well. He was sweet, caring, and allowed Hailey to grow up without forcing her into anything. I didn't fall for Corey as much. I felt like his relationship with Hailey was under developed due to their age gap, and he was cocky and extremely presumptuous towards the end. Either way, I felt like the author made the choice between the 2 guys difficult because they both clearly wanted what was best for Hailey no matter what the outcome. It left the ball in Hailey's court to follow her heart, and she does what she feels is right in the end. I hope the guy who isn't chosen will be in another book in the series because I was rooting for him to find love too! I couldn't put this book down because I had to find out who she was going to choose. It really lived up to its name because you have to wait until the end, and 11 years in book time, to find out who she picks. This was a great debut by this author and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

This is the sweet coming of age story for Hailey, Marcus, and Cory. If you haven't read it, grab it!Hailey is the type of friend I wanted to be, wanted to have, and the woman I want to be when I'm grown up. She's fun, carefree, and loves to surf. We watch her transition from child to womanhood as the years go by at the beach. The transition isn't easy and by the time she graduates, Hailey has already experienced heartache.Marcus, Hailey's best friend and childhood companion. He's the quintessential boy next door or in this case, the kid across the street. His feelings for Hailey are resolute. He watches her fall in love, picks up the pieces when her heart gets broken, and is her rock in times of crisis. His loyalty to Hailey doesn't go unnoticed and it's one of the reasons I fell in love with him.Cory, the third character. He just happens to tag along with his college best-friend, Jake, one Thanksgiving and meets a young Hailey. As the years go by, strong feelings develop. While Cory likes the ladies, it is obvious that he is driven and passionate. He's also pretty hot.The journey these three take into adulthood is not without its ups and downs. Heart ache, upheaval, love, and happiness. All play factors, but it comes down to the choices that are made. Which one is it going to be?Dawn Stanton wrote an amazing book with such down to earth characters. You are taken on an eleven year journey - from childhood to adulthood and get to bond with the characters. Pick it up. You won't be disappointed.
