The Duty and Destiny Series is a superbly-crafted collection of historical novels with a strong naval/seafaring theme. The series follows the naval career, loves and business dealings of Englishman, Frederick Harris, a brave but reluctant mariner. Despite his disinclination, he is seemingly destined to become a Master and Commander of his own ship. Books best read in series order.
Book Seven – The Odd-Job Man...
Frederick Harris is once again given command of a small squadron of ships with orders to discover Bonaparte’s invasion capabilities and to generally ruffle a few feathers along the French coast. Later he is sent to Gibraltar to undertake more tasks including trying to protect a merchant convoy from murderous Barbary Pirates.Published by The Electronic Book Company

It also shows quite a bit of English society of the period. This author maintains a good balance, particularly in this book. A really good ending left me wanting more and looking forward to the next edition of the series.

Continuing his tour through the relies of past British fleets, Harris is to command a 64 in the Mediterranean. First job to bring a neat but somewhat shy ship up to snuff. Then, face some Algerine corsairs soon to be followed by three Spanish ships of the line. All in a day's work or rather a night's work with the Spanish.

Sort of like 2 unrelated short stories to fill the gap between Sugar and Spice and the next full novel. Not much shoretime here, a part of Fredrick's life that I find fascinating... As Frederick is fond of saying, "Not to worry"...Looking forward to the next.
