By jean marie I was given an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.I've only read one other book in the Lost in Oblivion series, but I don't feel that you have to have read the others to be able to read this one.Lila is a the straight-laced "Dragon Lady" that manages the band Oblivion. She's married on paper but is tied to this arrangement in order to help her parents.Nick is the lead guitarist for the band Oblivion and sexy, brooding and a family that causes more pain than anything else.Together they're like oil and water and the banter only helps build the tension. But each is starting to see the others true selves.The sex scenes are so hot! The chemistry is sizzling and the straight-laced woman is finding herself in more ways than one.But nothing this good can last forever or can it? Decisions are made. What are the consequences? Will they survive or be forever shattered? If you've been reading this series, you'll definitely enjoy this sexy bad boy's story. If you haven't read it, go out and get it now. These two authors are amazing together and you won't be disappointed!

I just can’t get excited for them. However, I was given the opportunity to read a Taryn Elliott and Cari Quinn collaboration. I hesitated for about a day. Now understand, that is a TON of hesitation for me, generally it takes me about 3 seconds to one-click a Cari Quinn masterpiece, so a day is like an eternity to think over reading and reviewing a New Adult Rock star Romance.I have to say the dynamic duo did fantastic! From the very beginning the descriptions of the music, the intensity of the members of the band playing in concert and the singing took my breath away!! I was totally sucked in and felt as though I was at the concert – I could hear the music rocking in the background, smell the sweat, see the band on stage in my mind – it was amazing!! Very few authors can suck you into a book or scene so thoroughly. And that was just the beginning!Now, I have not read every story in the Oblivion series, but did not feel lost in Nick’s story at all. I was able to keep up and appreciated the brief explanations that the authors provided when they referred back to a previous story line, refreshing other reader’s memories and keeping those of us just jumping on the boat informed.Of course, these authors know how to bring the smexy and this installment does not disappoint! Tension, lust, desire all flow from the page pulling the reader through the story devouring page after page until the ending (WARNING: Cliff hangar!! Ugh!). It is such a joy when stories in a series get better as it goes along and fresh ideas still come forth. This is a very satisfying read even for people who are only luke warm on this genre, if you love a new adult rock star romance this is probably one of the best! The writing is five stars, but the evil cliff hangar docks them 1!

Thanks to this book, I no longer hate Nick :) By Jennifer_NC You can start the series with this book if you like, but all the foreplay happened in the earlier books -- that's where the fuse was lit.Shattered starts with the BOOM and doesn't look back.Nick and Lila finally acknowledge the sexual tension we have seen throughout the rest of the series. Even if you're not that fond of "Nick the Dick" (I wasn't) or "The Dragon Lady", you will love the way that Cari and Taryn bring them together. The story-line between the two, as well as the incendiary sex will leave you wanting more.If you haven't started the series yet, don't be afraid of starting with this one. Then go read the rest of them -- you'll be a groupie in no time! If you've been a loyal Oblivionite all along, you will NOT be disappointed with this book.I know I had a better appreciation for Nick at the end of the story, and I can't wait to read the next part of their tale in Fused.I was given an ARC of Shattered in exchange for my honest review.

Wonderful and unique story line By Vickie @Vickie's Kitchen and Garden Sherri Shoenborn Murray book A Wife and a River, gives us romance in a unexpected place, laughter, praying elderly ladies, and bunch of busybody fisherman.With great descriptions she had me wanting to live in a cabin, to visit the tackle shop, to go fishing (now), and last but not least, wanting to be in the elderly ladies prayer group!With so many unique characters through out this book, my favorite was just hard to pin down. I guess if pressed, I would say it would be Mae. She shines with her love of fishing, she is hardworking, loving, willing to learn, and most of all, a praying woman.Although this book kept my interest throughout it really picked up in the middle for me. I didn't want to put it down. Sounds like I'm in for a series and I can't wait to read more. Wonderful and unique story line.I was given this book by the author in exchange for my honest review.

The story takes place over 11 years and involves Hailey, her best friend Marcus and her brother's best friend Cory. Hailed has been in love with Cory from the moment he walked into her house with her big brother. She knows nothing will ever come of it but she still dreams of what it would be like to be with him. Marcus has been her best friend since forever. They spend their summers at the beach together and as they go through their teen years, they experience many firsts together. He is her rock---always there to support her and lift her up. And he has been in love with her all along. Unbeknownst to Hailey, Cory has fallen in love with her but doesn't act on it because of their age difference (8 years!) and the fact that he is her brother's best friend. When he finally gives in, he breaks Hailey's 18 year old heart and Marcus is there to pick up the pieces as always. When the book flashes forward 5 years, Hailey is interning at her father's law firm with Cory as her mentor. What happens when you face the one man that you have loved for the past 11 years who hurt you in the worst way? How does it play out when you are with another man who you love and has loved you his entire life? I wasn't sure which man to root for in this book because both seemed perfect for Hailey. I didn't want to see either of them hurt but she could only choose one man. In the end, she does what is right for her and she gets her HEA with the man she loves. I'm looking forward to the next book!

I am from New England and I could visualize everything the author was describing from the carefree summers at the beach, fireworks, and summer crushes. I also found Hailey relatable as a New England girl who is a little stubborn, witty, and holds her own with the guys. I loved Marcus as well. He was sweet, caring, and allowed Hailey to grow up without forcing her into anything. I didn't fall for Corey as much. I felt like his relationship with Hailey was under developed due to their age gap, and he was cocky and extremely presumptuous towards the end. Either way, I felt like the author made the choice between the 2 guys difficult because they both clearly wanted what was best for Hailey no matter what the outcome. It left the ball in Hailey's court to follow her heart, and she does what she feels is right in the end. I hope the guy who isn't chosen will be in another book in the series because I was rooting for him to find love too! I couldn't put this book down because I had to find out who she was going to choose. It really lived up to its name because you have to wait until the end, and 11 years in book time, to find out who she picks. This was a great debut by this author and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!

This is the sweet coming of age story for Hailey, Marcus, and Cory. If you haven't read it, grab it!Hailey is the type of friend I wanted to be, wanted to have, and the woman I want to be when I'm grown up. She's fun, carefree, and loves to surf. We watch her transition from child to womanhood as the years go by at the beach. The transition isn't easy and by the time she graduates, Hailey has already experienced heartache.Marcus, Hailey's best friend and childhood companion. He's the quintessential boy next door or in this case, the kid across the street. His feelings for Hailey are resolute. He watches her fall in love, picks up the pieces when her heart gets broken, and is her rock in times of crisis. His loyalty to Hailey doesn't go unnoticed and it's one of the reasons I fell in love with him.Cory, the third character. He just happens to tag along with his college best-friend, Jake, one Thanksgiving and meets a young Hailey. As the years go by, strong feelings develop. While Cory likes the ladies, it is obvious that he is driven and passionate. He's also pretty hot.The journey these three take into adulthood is not without its ups and downs. Heart ache, upheaval, love, and happiness. All play factors, but it comes down to the choices that are made. Which one is it going to be?Dawn Stanton wrote an amazing book with such down to earth characters. You are taken on an eleven year journey - from childhood to adulthood and get to bond with the characters. Pick it up. You won't be disappointed.

About the Author Shane A. Mason hails from the rugged South Island of New Zealand where a lot of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings were shot. He wrote his first novel at 18 but upon reflection decide it was a whiney teenage agnst ridden diatribe and shelved it deciding he needed more living and experience. 20 years later after marriage, divorce, time spent in a cult, attaining a black belt in karate, and training and working as a naturopath, he watched the six DVD series on the making of Lord of the Rings. This led to an epiphany fueled panic as he realised he had a trail of unfinished novels screaming out to be finished. Having devoured the Harry Potter series and got frustrated with the eventual predictability of the story lines (come on – let’s face it – they got formulaic), he decided finish his semi-fantasy action-adventure young adult novel based around his Prema Ayuveda training. Prema Ayurveda is ancient Indian mind-body-soul medicine.

A High dose of action, adventure & Mystery By Njkinny The first thing that attracted me to this book was the cover which is presented like a high adventure comic book cover and promises high drama and action. Beautiful and eye catching, it appeals to the reader at first glance. The story is of four cousins and their misadventures while on the mission to find their missing parents. Shane creates a lively and vivid picture of a setting set amidst beauty and nature. The characters are down to earth people and although their situations are very fantastical yet they are able to connect with the reader.The story starts slowly but soon picks up pace to give many nail biting moments. The plot is novel and unconventional and feels like a breath of fresh air. I loved the story and the cousins. They made me relive my days of reading Secret Seven and the Famous Five. :)The book could have been made more concise and the length shortened. But other than this The Omega Children: The return of the Marauders- Book 1 is a very engaging read from a very promising author and sure to prove a great timepass on a holiday. I give it a 4 out of 5 and look forward to reading more from the author. A very promising start to a very interesting series, if you love books with fantasy, adventure and drama then this book is for you. :)This review is also available on the blog Njkinny's World of Books

World development is a little confusing and doesn't really resolve (at least in a reasonable time... maybe subsequent installments?)I'm not completely certain if this is intentional, but there are a few pieces which appear to be scientology related, such as the children 'being clear' and 'clearing themselves'. There are a number of odd rituals referenced in this book that seem to be related. At about 75% complete I wasn't certain what the book is about. There's a lot of moving of the characters from one scene to another and a lot of dialog surrounding "We've just got to figure this out." and "We've got to keep moving forward." and "We don't have all the facts." and "I need a hypothesis.", "What about my 'hyperthesis'?" (whatever that is, it's not really discussed adequately, though it is discussed).I'd recommend removing any references to religions (intended or otherwise) that aren't clear and understood by a baseline audience (unless this book is intended for an audience consisting of believers of a certain religion, in which case make that clear).I'm likely to update this review later.

I didn't realise how much I enjoyed it until I started to miss the 'place' I went to whilst engaged in the novel - and that is a great sign. Mason has created an alternative world that these children are 'adventuring' in. There are core principles which I loved, the kids have a spirituality about them that is felt, not described. I am looking forward to my child being old enough to share this with, and have a copy ready to give my 12 year old nephew for his upcoming birthday.I'm glad it is a series, and look forward to reading the second book in the saga.

From the Inside Flap You're supposed to feel safe in your home. It's supposed to be a place where you can retreat and feel separated from the dangers of the world. You form a bond with that place, a trust even, and once it's broken, it's incredibly hard to repair. Sure, you could be afraid of someone breaking in, but what if the danger is closer than that? What if someone is already living there and you don't know it? They could be in the attic, hiding beneath the home in a crawlspace, or simply in another room watching from the shadows and moving when you do so as not to be seen. Why are they there? Are they harmless, or do they have ill intentions? You don't know, and neither did I. I used to be a home inspector, ironically, until I realized that the standard checks and balances that earned houses the seal of approval wasn't enough. I inspected my own home from top to bottom before we moved in and I was confident that it was safe and sturdy. My wife Ava and I loved it there at first, but then things started to change between us. It started with little things like cabinets being left open, which she hated, and I was always blamed for it even though I knew I had closed them. Then she started hearing things at night. Bumps in the attic, tapping on the walls, those kinds of things. She was very spiritual so she immediately assumed it was a ghost or spirit haunting the home. I of course did not believe in such things, and I had never heard of someone living in another person's home before, so I just assumed it was a pest problem. No matter what I did though, it wouldn't go away, and things started spiraling downward in our marriage. She hated me for not believing her, but I couldn't accept that our house was haunted. Even when she claimed to see someone, a lanky and pale person, walking around our house during the day and at night when I wasn't home, I still didn't believe her. It became clear at a certain point after nine months or so, that someone was deliberately trying to ruin my marriage. Who and why was beyond me, but I started getting letters in the mail from someone who claimed to be my lover. Ava was furious, she thought I was cheating on her and she wouldn't hear a word otherwise. Eventually it became too much and one night she just left. After years of dating and planning our life together, this one incident, this one thing living in our home drove us irrevocably apart. That night when she packed her bags and left, it was a year after we had moved into the home. I was sitting in the living room, staring into the fireplace in front of me. The fire within crackled and sparked, burning with a rage I knew all too well. I had been through every scenario, tried every solution. I tore that house apart but I never found anything that proved my theories. If I went to the police now, they would lock me up in a looney bin and throw away the key. I took another long swig from the bottle of Jack I had opened. Ava wouldn't say a word to me. She just kept packing her things while I yelled and pleaded with her. I told her that it wasn't what it looked like, that someone was messing with us, but she didn't want to hear it. She filled up a suitcase and walked out. I grabbed the bottle of whiskey from the liquor cabinet and collapsed into a chair in front of the fire we had built only hours before. It was cold outside, too cold for someone to hide, which meant that whoever was doing this had to be inside the house. I drank from the bottle, relishing in the pungent burn of the whiskey as it slid down my throat. I had already finished a quarter of the handle, the buzz was settling in nicely. I knew that whatever had been doing this wasn't a ghost, or a spirit, or even a demon. It was a person, someone who thought it would be fun to ruin my marriage, steal my food, and completely destroy the life I had built. I knew they would be here tonight, to witness their big victory, hiding in a cabinet or in the attic. I looked over the side of the chair at the axe I had brought in from the shed. I had sharpened it a few days ago for chopping firewood, so it would do the trick. Whoever this was, they took everything from me. I was going to make them suffer. The best part was they had nowhere to run. I torched all of the winter clothes so they couldn't steal any and run away. There were several inches of snow and a whole lot of forest between the house and the nearest city. They would freeze to death before they could make it. It was just the two of us now, and only one would survive the night. Every time I closed my eyes and took another drink from that bottle, I saw Ava's face, and the rage deepened. There was nothing wrong with us before this house, before this thing that wore the skin of a person. What could possibly drive someone to do something like this? It must be someone who enjoys seeing others suffer. The bottle was halfway gone now. The warm embrace of the whiskey was coursing through my veins. My courage was mounting, and my inhibitions about what had to be done slowly started melting away. I wasn't a murderer, but I was more than ready to become one. I finished the bottle while staring into the crackling fire. I heard the groans of the walls around me as the low temperatures contracted the wood. Amidst those noises, I heard the pattering of light footsteps in the attic. He was up there, that thing that ruined everything. I stood up from the chair, the world swam around me as my shadow danced on the walls and ceiling. I threw the bottle into the fire and watched the flames expand as if applauding my decision. I turned and picked up the axe. "I'm coming for you bastard, you hear me?" I shouted, "I'm going to tear you apart for what you did!" He didn't bother being quiet about it, I heard him moving in the attic above. I couldn't move very fast, the whiskey had blurred my vision and slowed my footsteps. I walked into the hallway and stopped. I had to brace myself against the wall for a moment while the world fell back into focus. "Come out of your hiding place! Let's settle this like real men!" I heard something scratching in the wall to my right. I knocked with a closed fist. It was hollow. I turned, raised the axe above my head, and brought it down into the wall. It broke through, sending dust and wood everywhere. I looked in through the hole and saw a thin walkway between the walls that I never thought to check. "So this is how you got around, huh? You think you're clever? You think this is a game!" I raised the axe again and drove it into the wall. The hole was wide enough to step through now. I stuck my whole head inside and looked around. It was too thin for me to navigate the space, but I caught a glimpse of the intruder. He was just like Ava described him: pale, emaciated, ghostly. His eyes were sunk into his skull, he looked like he hadn't been outside in a long time. "Get over here!" I screamed.

About the Author Victor Dark spent a lifetime in libraries as a child. He graduated with an English degree from UConn and spent years working as a freelance journalist. Then one day, he realized his calling in life was to scare people silly. Currently Victor resides in Hartford with his wife and two German Shepherds, who are cheekily named Poe and Wells. When he’s not writing, Victor enjoys playing guitar and proving society wrong by teaching his old dogs new tricks.

After getting into the flow of the book, I couldn't stop turning the pages. Following Alan on his journey to investigate the mysteries of the intruder was a creepy fun ride. I'm a fan of horror and anyone who likes a quick scary read, should definitely give Uninvited Guests a shot!

I thought it was going to be about hauntings and you know scary stuff like that but it wasn't. This was one of the best books I have read in a very long time. This book really got to me because it could be true and that's what makes it even more scarier. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone.

Sexy RedHot Cowboy Read By April R Symes This is the 3rd book in the series but this can be read as a standalone.This was a good cowboy romance story that is about Declan O'Rourke, a sexy as sin Navy Seal and the independent yet tough and sassy Harper Castleberry. These two were fated to meet and their love story is written in the sands of time.Harper Castleberry is a single mother who has a young little boy and a sickly mother to support. She is not looking for a man to come in her life. Harper is a bull rider and she also is a teacher. Then she meets Declan O'Rourke who is a handsome ex-Navy SEAL turned sexy cowboy.These two end up meeting, and their path to each other and their romance takes time due to their past which is amazingly similar ( their childhood) and it has shaped them today and made them wary to trust and take chances. That still doesn’t stop the attraction between them. They are drawn to each other and oh wow, the humor is great in this story along with their chemistry. Also there is some mystery in this story that is left over from the other2 books in this trilogy ( Who shot Declan ? ) .If you like a romance with a bit of mystery thrown in along with some twists and turns to really get you going, then you have found the best book. I loved this book and the MCs; Harper and Declan really are perfect for each other . They are afraid to trust yet they have so much to give, especially to each other. I loved the humor and the sexual chemistry and, what I really liked was how Declan fought for Harper; he went alpha cowboy for his lady. Wow! This is a classic Tina Leonard’s book and it is really good. I cannot wait to read what she has next.My Rating: 4.6 stars *******A gifted copy was provided by the author for my honest review***

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Last but definitely NOT least in the series By Leanna W Last but definitely NOT least! This was an amazing book. It is book 3 in the series. Although it can be read as a stand alone, in my opinion you should read the first two to get a better feel for the story and characters. This book had the perfect mix of sweet, hot, funny, and drama in it. There were twists that I did not see coming and this is one of the things I loved about this book.Harper, a single mother to Michael, is attracted to Declan. And who wouldn't be ...as he is a sexy and very swoon worthy cowboy and ex Seal. He is also very attracted to her yet they both do their best to fight this attraction, lasting quite a while. I loved this it really added to the hotness and sexual tension of the book. With plenty of drama mixed with with a lot of love and sweetness, this is the perfect love story.This is the fourth book I have read and Loved by this author, Tina Leonard. I love her writing style as it is smooth, fresh, and fun. Her stories and hot and sweet and will make you laugh. Although i'm sad to see this series end, it ended on a great note.

By Rose This is a review for Last of the Red- Hot Heroes ( Hell's Outlaws ) Book 3, a very sexy, charming, hot and excellent cowboy love story. This novel is an enjoyable read on its own but you should read books one and two in this amazing series to get reacquainted with the history of the town of Hell, Texas all their funny characters and how they have change and grow. I love the way Tina write this stories, sweet, funny characters, some twist and turns, a lot of humor, drama, mystery, sex and love that will keep any reader interested until the end of the book. In this third installment we have the story of Harper Castleburry, single mother of Michael and bull rider and instructor and Declan O'Rourke, sexy ex navy SEAL, hot cowboy. I couldn't stop reading about Harper and Declan, living, hanging out, falling in love and resolving family troubles, jealousy and drama from Judy and Ivy and a lot more from Hell Texas again for their story was a fun. A must read with an epic final, don't miss it!

I was really impressed with the concept of this book.Greta is out celebrating college graduation. This is her time, she has worked hard and let school consume her, now she is going to let loose.Paco and Greta happen to be in the same bar at the same time. They see other through the crowd and both are attracted to each other, but unforeseen circumstances keep them from meeting.Fast forward 2 years and we find Greta is a workaholic. When she is presented with the chance at Club Alpha, she is reluctant but she agrees to go through with it. She wants to find true happiness but the secret that she keeps deep inside holds her back.Paco also signs up for Club Alpha, but he is cynical and doesn’t think that it will help him find a woman who is compatible with him, he doesn’t think she exists.Right from the start this book is dark. I have warned my daughter from a very early age to never leave your drink unattended for even a second. All it takes is a moment for someone to take advantage of you and your whole life changes. My heart hurt for Greta, and I won’t lie, I cried during her suffering. I felt her pain and anguish and her need to not be controlled by her fears.Once I got started I just couldn’t stop until I got to the end. I love the dual points of view. This story kept me on edge, it’s gritty, it’s dark and it will make your heart beat so fast you think it’s going to pop out of your chest. With every turn of the page it seemed there was a new twist and something unexpected. It’s not for everyone, so pay close attention to the disclaimer.I did love Zaire! Sexy and Dark, a great change of pace~ By haunted one This book took a turn from what I thought Club Alpha would be.When you read the title you think of a bdsm club with sexy, dominate men and the kinks that go on within its walls. That is not what we have here and it was a nice change of pace. Yes, we still have a very dominate, hot male but this book has a very deep storyline that at times can be disturbing, but is a very relevant part of the plot.Yes, there is a great plot working here. Paco is looking for his soul mate, the one person who will make him whole. He pays a lot of money to find her. Not realizing that he already laid eyes on her two years before.Greta is trying to become whole again. Two years prior her life was ripped apart and she is ready to rebuild a life. They are thrown into a scenario that is meant to bring them together but there are other unplanned players and unforeseen consequences.This book was well detailed with a great cast of characters. Not only the main characters but all the secondary too! A complete story that moved quickly and smoothly. I definitely will be looking into more books by this author. She planned out a plot with suspense, heat, and took it to a whole new limit. Very well done!

Plus the characters are Awesome. Greta has her own ghosts from her past. When she had just graduated from college she was at a bar waiting on her friends. When she spots this sexy Latino man looking at her. She is sipping on her drink when she starts feeling odd. She never did get to meet the sexy Latino that night as the Man sitting next to her takes her out of the Bar and she ends up gang raped. Paco has seen him a goddess but when he starts to head to her the guy next to her takes her away. Years later both of them end up clients of Club Alpha. The club gives rich people their fantasies they are thought of as cupid to the rich and powerful. Greta is not rich but her friend set her up with this club. Paco wants a woman who wants him for himself not just his money and the club guarantees him this. Only the fantasies can be dangerous!. For these two their journey will be full of danger and intrigue. You will love this book that is full of suspense, action,intrigue, and amazing Romance!. This is a must read book!.

I loved the characters of Tanya Wellman and billionaire bachelor Antonio Leopoli, who is tall, handsome, dimples, and sexy, and how their relationship started. Tanya has finished law school and passed her NY State bar exam—now she is officially an attorney. Tanya is from rural Sunshine, Alabama, and she is very humble. She only wants to work hard and be successful in practicing criminal law. After passing the bar, Tanya attends a new club with her best friend, Bethany, and she is introduced to Antonio. Their chemistry is inevitable. Because Tanya is so attracted and mesmerized with Antonio and vise versa that she agrees to go home with him—something she never did before—a one night stand—now the publicity has started. This book will pique your interest. Will Tanya continue with a relationship with Antonio? Will Tanya find out what Antonio does for a living? Upon reading the story you have a small-town girl with no life experience falls in love with a man with a lot of life experience. Also upon reading this book you will notice there was lack of communication through half of the book which really irritated me for two adults that are very smart to let communication skills. All in all it was a good read.

By RO G'ma Fall Girl is the ninth book in the Garden Girls Cozy Mystery Series and can be read as a stand-alone; however, I recommend reading the entire series because you see the development of the characters and their relationships. All the characters in Hope Callaghan’s Garden Girls Series are real life people whom one can easily identify with; the friendship Gloria and her “girls” share is amazing. Ms. Callaghan smoothly blends faith, friendship, mystery, and intrigue into her books. The characters, combined with Ms. Callaghan’s writing style and the twists and turns in this book, make it hard to put down. This is an ideal cozy mystery … it’s a fun, clean read, with no bad language, graphic violence, or adult situations. I found myself laughing out loud more than once and the reveal surprised me.Gloria Rutherford has a vague memory of telling her best friend, Lucy Carlson, she would “think” about going deer hunting with her. When Lucy shows up at Gloria’s door with hunting gear and rifles Gloria can’t disappoint her dear friend even though she doesn’t want to hunt or kill anything. When they return to Gloria’s house after their adventure, they learn that Bill Volk, Lucy’s ex-boyfriend, has been murdered and his body dumped across the street from Gloria’s house. Gloria and Lucy fear that someone is trying to frame them for Bill’s murder. I hava read each book in this series and have never been disappointed in the story of each. This book is no exception. The mystery threads itself page by page...never giving you a definite clue to the mystery until the final pages. You will really enjoy each book, with more in this series coming. Each of her other fine Series display her excellent writing of mysteries. Finally, the Author is a Christian writer, allowing for a clean worded reading experience.

Who am I talking about? None other than CoCo Amoure! Remember her name, feel it all through the marrow in your bones because that is where her writing takes you to. Deep down in the recesses of your soul. This type of creativity will remain within the annals of your mind for an inestimable length of time. Readers will sit wondering just how did she look into your personal closets and come up with your story, that is the inimitable talent which is displayed in all of the books written by this unsurpassable young author. Her supreme talent lies in putting forth life like portraits of the reality of our lives. She wrings every bit of our actual reality and creates a story that lets us see it through a dramatically well told fictional rendition.If we have not lived within this particular storyline, then we know someone who has. In this latest read we are introduced to Delaney, a child caught up in the madness of the dysfunctional marital problems created by the unity of her parental birth donors. This dysfunction is embedded with the character development of Delaney and impedes her ability to recognize true love from false lust. Now that's how you know this writer is the truth and not to be missed!WHAT A TALENT, WHAT A TALENT, WHAT A TALENT!!We readers are first caught up within this storyline by the exciting synopsis CoCo uses to draw you into this fictional realistic tale. Once you take that tasteful bait you become entrapped until the words to be continued are typed upon your sensory glands; and wow does she put an electrical overload on those emotions!! The overload begins as we see through Delaney's eyes, the beginning of the consequences a child's upbringing intruding upon her adulthood. A philandering father's behavior and a mother's mentally abusive reaction to such behavior creates an adult with relationship problems - this is Delaney's story.Delaney is caught within the matrix of a love triangle; the same type of matrix her mother was once involved in with her father and her uncle. This book is about the choices that both these women made and the effect it had on their personal love lives. The difference being the saying "mother like daughter", does not come into being the common denominator in this triangular equation! Delaney comes strong with hers! Again, not bad, despite reservations By JPS First posted on Amazon.co.uk on 8 November 2015This is a quite good follow-up of Vulkan Lives (the author’s previous volume in the Horus Heresy) and of the Unremembered Empire (from Dan Abnett). A couple of little warnings before starting this review: it is not absolutely necessary to have read both mentioned volumes before this one, but it certainly helps. In fact, it also helps to have read the whole series, to some extent, and in particular the five first volumes. Also, and although I try to both avoid them and limit them, the following review may contain a few “spoilers”.This rather long volume (slightly less than 500 pages) focused upon the Odyssey of a handful of Salamanders, survivors of the Isstvan V’ “Odyssey as they bring back the corpse of Vulkan, their Primarch, back to Nocturne (hence the book’s title), their home planet, across the war-torn space of the Imperium and across the storm-ridden warp in particular (hence the book’s subtitle). They are driven by their belief, or rather by their need to believe that “Vulkan lives”, despite all evidence pointing to the contrary. Taking point in this belief is Artellus Numeon, once captain of the Pyre Guard and Vulkan’s Equerry, who is freed from captivity and torture by the Ultramarines, rallies the survivors of his Legion and leads the Odyssey with the grudging acceptance of Guilliman and the two other Primarchs who have joined forces with him to found – a bit prematurely - the “Second Empire”.The plot and events that take place during the Odyssey are somewhat unoriginal. They are however some nice touches, such as a murderous warp version of Ulysses’ sirens (I will say no more about them). Another nice touch is that, at one point in the voyage, the huge but largely empty battle-barge of the Salamanders is forced to drop out of the warp near the Segmentum Solar, gets to hear the call by Rogal Dorn for all Legions to rally to the defence of Terra and therefore learns that Terra has not yet fallen. The Salamanders are therefore forced to make a rather hard choice between obeying the summons and continuing on their journey. This, at least, is how the author portrays it.There is also the usual number of “desperate” void battles, boarding actions and even a battle on the ground, all of which are quite griping and well told, but not terribly original. You also get “treated” to the usual reminiscences about the treason, trauma, defeat and massacre of Isstvan V (here we go again!).Perhaps the main theme of the whole book is the Salamanders’ own agonies, and how they are torn and divided between hope/belief against all odds that “Vulkan lives”, quite literally, of course, and that bringing him back to Nocturne will revive him, and mourning and despair, which leads the Legionaries to bring him back to be buried at home. Here again, the theme and idea is rather good, but the execution is borderline stereotype, at times. It did not elicit much empathy – allegedly one of the main characteristics of the Salamanders - as far as I was concerned and, at times, I could not help getting a bit impatient with all the moaning and whining (that is how it felt like, to me) coming from the fearsome Space Marines.A related point is the author’s tendency to exaggerate and “overdo it”, at times, to make his history more dramatic, although this might also be editorial glitches. So, at one point during a particularly tense boarding action, Artellus’ ammunition is low, with the author telling us he has only half a clip left in his bolter. A few lines further, and without a single additional shot having been fired, you learn that in fact he only has three rounds left and, of course, hardly any other weapon.More importantly, when describing and exploring the moral crisis of the Salamanders, the author comes up with the dubious claim that their Legion was the one which suffered the highest casualties on Isstvan V. I would rather have put my money on the Iron Hands, although the Black Guard was also decimated! Even more controversially, the Salamanders are presented as worse off than the two others because they do not know what happened to their Primarch, whereas Corax of the Black Guard escaped, although badly wounded, and Manus Ferrus of the Iron Hands was decapitated. What the author may have wanted to convey is the uncertainty as to whether their Primarch is still alive or not was, for the Salamanders, perhaps even worse to bear than the certainty that he had been killed. Unfortunately, this is not exactly how his point comes across.Another interesting feature which could have been better used is that of a somewhat schizophrenic sharpshooter “Knight Errant” who, by and large, gets to help the Salamanders quite a lot. The problem here is that the author never entirely tells how this character made it onto the battle barge, yet alone how he acquired his somewhat mixed personality. IT would also have let readers know what the Sigillite was up to...Finally, while quite entertaining despite all my gripes and rants, this book is yet another “side-show”, even if one that is interesting at times. The point here is that, once again, the reader is no closer to the invasion of Terra and the assault of the Imperial Palace. Also, it would be nice if, in some not too distant future and before the invasion of Terra begins, a Black Library author would be kind enough to write a book on Book 17 of the series (the Outcast Dead) and focus on the preparations for the defence of System Solar. This is book 32 and, for the last fifteen instalments, authors have been spinning out the outcomes of Isstvan V but almost exclusively from the perspective of the Loyalist or the Rebel Legions.Three stars.

By Rhymoceros This is the second book within the Horus Heresy of a planned trilogy, according to the Afterword by the author Nick Kyme, revolving around Vulkan and the Salamanders. I didn't know this was a planned treatment for this chapter, especially within the Horus Heresy, so it's a very nice surprise. I was planning on giving up on the Heresy series because the plots were all over the place and so many things didn't match up, but now I'm hoping the next book by Mr. Kyme will be available through the Black Library as a signed and numbered copy. The Unremembered Empire sort of messed it up for me, but this book brought it back together, the characters were very well rounded and the ending did not disappoint.No spoilers here, pick it up, it's worth it. This is one of the few times I would say the cover art did not the the book justice. I would have loved to have had Salamanders and Deathguard on the cover, Mortarion's own were a satisfying presence. Makes me want to read more about Barbarus. How 'bout it Nick? Will you get started on a Mortarion Trilogy?The third book should be the most criticized with very high expectations, I'm hoping it will open the door for future novels for the Salamanders, maybe even now with the Black Legion series coming out. 0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not bad. Not great, but not bad. By Marcus If I had a penny for every time the words Vulkan Lives appears in this book...The story is not bad. It is a little slow and meandering at times, but that's part of the Odyssey of these Salamanders trying to get home.There's a few plot holes, but the most glaring for me was how a Legion home world was essentially left with no defenses. Legion warships appear in-system, engage in battle, land on the planet, and not so much as a single hail, or even a hint of orbital defense. I suppose by the time you reach that point in the book, you just want the damn plot to move along so let's just hurry up already...The overall storyline was decent. It advances the overall Horus Heresy storyline, but the devil is in the details.
