Sweet but Slightly Unsatisfying By The book lady *Warning: May Contain Spoilers*I really enjoyed a lot about this book and it had a lot going for it: great characters, likable leads and good pacing. The problem I have with this book is that the good parts are excellent and the bad parts are pretty terrible. Both Sam and Colin were very interesting character, with him being a soon to be priest and her dealing with a loss from her childhood and believes in being total honesty. They are a great match and there are many supporting characters that are great too. There is a real emotional heart to this story that is both touching and real and I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romance. But the fact that this writer is capable of writing such good characters, great scenes and touching moments forces me be harder on her when we get to the major flaws in this book. The first major problem with this book is it's a series book and for about a third of the book it reads like it. We are introduced to the minutia of the lives of all these characters who have nothing to do with this book and this story, but some other book in the series and that story. We have an huge extended family that I couldn't keep track of without a flow chart and I reread multiple passages to try to keep track. The next major flaw is the insta-love. It's not as bad as some books, but they basically both admitted to being in love within the first third of the book and almost all their interacts after that point are them making out and not talking, which is how people actually fall in love. The last thing that bothered me about this book was the ending. Most of the book happens on a two week vacation that Sam takes to Colin's family home, but the last twenty percent of the book they're mostly separated. In this end we get nothing about what's going on with Colin and how he's feeling, but we do get two segments with information about Colin's sister? Seriously?*Spoiler*Even though he doesn't take his vows he doesn't contact Sam. His excuse for not taking them is he needs more time to be sure he wants to commit to the church, not that he wants to be with Sam. Then Sam shows up and he says he didn't contact her because he didn't think she would forgive him for letting her go. Both of these things can't be true. He obviously didn't contact her because he was waiting to be emotionally recommitted to the church, not saying he is giving on the church for Sam and that's a bitter pill for me to swallow as a reader. Basically if we would have known what he was thinking this would be a non-issue for me because we could see him struggling with being torn from the life he always thought he wanted and the woman he loved. Instead he just does nothing. Not very heroic. Plus when he asks her to marry him she doesn't even question if he's serious or just asking her because she's pregnant.*/spoiler*So the ending just didn't live up to the beginning of book. The middle of the book is amazing, but the beginning is bogged down with too many characters that have nothing to do with the plot and the ending is frustrating because he doesn't do anything to prove his love for her and we don't even see him suffering, we see him looking polished and amazing before taking his vows and then we don't see him again for months, but he doesn't appear like he's in pain. The Sum Up:This is a sweet and touching book that's worth reading, but get ready to read about a lot of characters and actions that are totally unimportant to the plot and expect the ending to be frustrating and slightly unsatisfying.3 1/2 stars

It was understated but so beautiful that I had to stop and think about the bitter with the sweet, the hopelessness and hopefulness, the sacrifice with the selfishness. Like I said it was slow to build up and then when it did, I almost wanted the story to turn back because Colin and Samantha's passion was nascent and fresh, it almost should not have been written. Almost, I said because I am glad it was, made me a voyeur, a book one. Then came the separation, for which I don't think I have read such heartbreak in a contemporary romance, I felt Samantha's devastation and there was a sense of depletion that life should never have, but that love can bring when it becomes tough. There was some confusion about whether Samantha's holiday was a two week one or a three week one but the real weakness of the story was that the end was rushed and that Colin's decision towards the end was somehow not done well, he should have been given more page time, he deserved it because I felt his deep sincerity and that is rare to come across in a fictional read. Even at the end, when they finally speak, he does not get to say what is in his heart, I love you was inadequate for the hugeness of his emotional transition, however it was convincing. I would recommend this book and this author, whose books I have heard wonderful things about, for anyone who likes a well-written yet sweetly flavoured romance.

The characters were wonderful, the storyline unique and very original, and the writing was superb! What happens when you have your path set, you know what you want and you've worked so hard for it, but someone comes along and not only makes you question what you want but manages to make you question your whole life's path?Braydon and Samantha are "dating". It isn't much - Samantha doesn't feel much more than friendship for Braydon but she enjoys his company so she accompanies to his family home over their break from college.Samantha is introduced to the whole McCullough clan - and what a clan they are! While they're around one another their true Irish roots come out and I love everything about this family!Colin McCullough is one of Braydon's older brothers. He has his path set to become a priest. Samantha immediately doesn't know how to act around him - it's hard to think of him as a man and not a priest so she tiptoes around him at first. They fight their attraction to one another. Samantha is overwrought with guilt over her feelings for Colin. Not so much because of Braydon, although that plays a part, but because of Colin's choice to become a priest.Colin, predictably, fights tooth and nail to fight off the strange and new urges he feels toward Samantha "Sammy".When they can't fight their feeling anymore, they start a journey together that neither one of them can resist but they both hang on to for dear life. Will Colin stay true to what he's always wanted or does he see a new path for himself, one with Sammy by his side? Will Sammy get over her guilt and the worry that she's somehow "corrupting" Colin and making him go against all he's ever wanted? And what about Braydon? Will he see what's going on between his "girlfriend" and his brother? Will he accept it or will it tear apart their family? This was an amazing read. I'm almost done with book 2 in the series, Skin, and it's just as amazing, if not more so, than this one!5 stars!!*Note - each book can be read as a standalone but due to the reoccurring characters - I'd recommend reading them in order!*
