Savage Rendezvous In 1828, the Rocky Mountains were an immense, unsettled region through which few white men dared to travel. Only courageous mountain men like Nathaniel King were willing to risk the unknown dangers for the freedom the wilderness offered. But while attending a rendezvous of trappers and fur traders, King’s freedom was threatened when he was accused of murdering several men for their money. With the help of his friend Shakespeare McNair, Nathaniel had to prove his innocence. For he had not cast off the fetters of society to spend the rest of his life behind bars. Blood Fury In 1828, the Rocky Mountains were wild and treacherous. Anyone daring to travel there faced unknown dangers and adventures at every turn. On a hunting trip, young Nathaniel King stumbled onto a disgraced Crow Indian. Attempting to regain his honor, Sitting Bear placed himself and his family in great peril, for a war party of hostile Utes threatened to kill them all. When the savages wounded Sitting Bear and kidnapped his wife and daughter, Nathaniel had to rescue them or watch them perish. But despite his skill in tricking unfriendly Indians, King might just have met an enemy he could not outsmart. ABOUT THE AUTHOR David L. Robbins was born on Independence Day 1950. Sorry, but the teenager with no muscles on the cover is not ready for a championship fight, he's not buff, or built or even attractive! Also, author used "anyways" quite often instead of saying "anyway" and there were grammatical errors/typos that should have been caught during editing. The box set was interesting enough that I continued on, if I had bought each book in the series individually, I would have stopped after book one or two.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Really good read By Debbie/New Hampshire I enjoyed the character development. All of them are dealing with a tragedy. How it rolls out through out the story is quite realistic.. I found a few errors but nothing takes away from the story.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Needs some serious work By Ashley Hart-Murphy I tried to get through this, I really did. The writing is sloppy, choppy and way too detailed at times (especially the inner monologues). I couldn't connect at all, but I have this annoying compulsion to find out how a story ends so I usually can push myself to finish it out. I couldn't even make it halfway through the 2nd "book". My final straw was when a character was originally mentioned as Ashley then referred to as Kristie just pages later. How difficult is it to keep track of someone you're obviously setting up for a bigger part of the plot? And it's not like there was a huge array of secondary characters to keep track of either, there's no excuse. But when the spelling went back and for between Kristy & Kristie on the SAME page I refused to continue. I don't understand how this wasn't caught, seeing as how within the first half of this bundle I picked it out at least 8 times. At the very least PLEASE go back and fix the glaring name errors. I might have pushed through if it weren't for that. The way it stands it appears that you do not care enough to spell the name consistently throughout this series.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Too Many Difficult Personalities By Former Educator Who Agrees I have enjoyed watching all the characters develop in the first two Shannon Hammer books, but I have to admit that I had trouble with there being so many bad apples to deal with in this book. For a girl who is supposed to be beloved by her hometown, Shannon has too many enemies. I found the number of them in this selection just a little tiresome. I also would like to see the relationship between Shannon and Whitney begin to evolve into something more than the one they had in high school since it has been a long time since they were in high school. I can't help but remember my mother's advice when dealing with someone with a difficult personality-----just walk away. There are just too many times when Shannon stews over Whitney's actions when she already knows what Whitney's personality is. That she allows Whitney to push her buttons and take up so much of her own emotional real estate is her own fault, not Whitney's. Her reactions are as immature as Whitney's behavior. I'd like to see her begin to put Whitney's behavior into perspective and laugh more over it than take it so seriously. For instance, in the confrontation with Whitney when she and Brad Jones are on the way to lunch, and Whitney begins her gossip, why can't she just say, "well, I understand that I'm not supposed to talk about this. See you." Then just walk away---to the cafeteria on her own. She does know where it is, doesn't she? I would have loved to have seen Whitney's reaction to that rather than Shannon getting right into Whitney's own pattern of behavior. Whitney is the thorn in Shannon's side, a stock character in series such as this, but she needs to be more of an aggravation that Shannon manages to keep in perspective. The first two books in this series show that it has the promise of being a very good series. The town, Shannon's work, her relationships with friends, the two men in her life---all of these are good things, and no one would ever deny that Kate Carlisle creates excellent plots. I like the way the town's minor characters become part of the story and indicate how much a part of her hometown Shannon is. I thought the two bad guy characters needed to be crafted with a little more subtlety. If I had read this novel before the other two, I would have believed that the main character makes enemies much easier than she makes friends. I will still read the next novel in this series because I like the setting and most of the characters. I am interested to see how the one-dimensional views of Mac and Eric change as the series develops. It doesn't really bother me that she refers to their looks more so than their basic characters and that nothing has really developed with either of the guys yet. That seems plausible seeing that Shannon is so intent on her work that she hasn't yet really committed to the development of something more herself. So, of the three in this series thus far, this was my least favorite, but I still think there's a lot of promise in the basic creation of town and characters. I will read the next one to see how things change and develop before I give up on Shannon.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. an almost perfect cozy mystery By Silvara Wilde I received this book for free from Obsidian in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.I really liked Shannon as a character, and getting to learn about renovation and construction. The secrets the house held were also fun to read about. Shannon was my favorite kind of character. She had faults and strengths, was usually level-headed, but also curious and with a quick burning temper. She felt like a real person, not a caricature.I wasn’t as attached to her possible-boyfriend Mac. He wasn’t a bad character, he just didn’t have a lot of depth. It’s possible since this is book 3, that he was described better in previous books. Maybe his personality was shown more in them as well. But mostly in this one we were constantly told and shown about how handsome he is. Or reminded that he is a thriller writer. There were a few cute moments between Mac and Shannon, but they just didn’t click for me as a couple.Eric, the police chief on the other hand actually had some fun moments of witty banter with Shannon. And she was interested in him as well. But honestly, neither one of the possible romances clicked with me enough to root for them. The focus was more on the mystery, which is perfect and I loved that about the book! But if you’re going to dangle romance, especially if there’s a love triangle possibility, the male love interests need to be more fleshed out.The mystery itself was exciting. An unexplained death from 15 years before, hidden in a house no one has lived in since long before that. Add in hidden rooms, a few more minor subplots, and some really interesting secondary characters and you have an almost perfect cozy mystery.3.5 Stars(cross-posted to my blog)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Crowned and Moldering is a wonderful cozy mystery! By Kris Anderson - The Avid Reader Crowned and Moldering by Kate Carlisle is the third book in A Fixer Upper Mystery series. Shannon Hammer lives in Lighthouse Cove, California and is a building contractor. Shannon specializes in Victorian home renovations and rehabs. Shannon took over the company five years previously after her father had a heart attack (just a mild one). Shannon is getting ready to start on MacKintyre Sullivan’s new home. He purchased a beautiful Queen Anne Victorian (though it does not have the beautiful gingerbread work) near the lighthouse. Shannon is doing a walk through with Mac and a few of her workers. They are investigating the dumb waiter when it collapses and falls into the basement. Shannon looks down and sees bones. Looks like Shannon has found another body!Police Chief Eric Jensen (who is very handsome and single) is called to the scene. He knows it is useless to warn Shannon not to investigate (though he does try). The deceased turns out to be Lily Brogan. Lily is Sean Brogan’s older sister (Sean works for Shannon on her crew). Lily disappeared fifteen years ago and Sean has never stopped looking for her. Lily was in her senior year of high school (in the spring) when she disappeared. Who wanted to do away with this beautiful young woman? While investigating the murder of Lily, Shannon’s business rival, Cliff Hogarth, ends up dead (after she had a big blow out with him). Is Cliff’s murder related to Lily’s? The list of people who wanted Cliff death turns out to be quite lengthy (he had made a lot of enemies since he returned to Lighthouse Cover from Chicago). Will Shannon be able to solve the crimes before she becomes the next victim?Crowned and Moldering was a great cozy mystery. The characters are enjoyable and easy to like (and relate to). The town of Lighthouse Cove sounds beautiful, and I like that Shannon is restoring a beautiful historic Victorian home (near a lighthouse). Something I was keen on was that the author portrayed Shannon as a smart and strong woman (to many books lately have portrayed women as ditzy and bumbling). I enjoyed that the mystery was complex and difficult to solve (though I did figure out who was the killer). Crowned and Moldering is the third book in A Fixer Upper Mystery series, but it can easily be read by itself (without having enjoyed the other two books in the series). I give Crowned and Moldering 5 out of 5 stars (because I just loved it). I cannot wait for the next book in A Fixer Upper Mystery series.I received a complimentary copy of Crowned and Moldering from the author (I am a member of Kate’s Raters) in exchange for an honest review.

Come on in and join in the festivities in Little Perran By Whispering Stories Little Perran is a small scenic village in the middle of the English countryside; quaint, peaceful and uneventful. That is until famous film star Roux Lockhart arrives to stay, whilst shooting his latest film nearby.Frankie Bell, the village’s librarian, has the task of looking after her Aunty Rose’s house whilst she is away. The same house that Roux will be staying in. It’s up to her to give him a warm welcome and leave some of her scrumptious mince pies as a welcome. The villagers are sworn to secrecy about Roux’s whereabouts, but it’s not long before the press come snooping around. When a snowstorm blows in causing havoc on the roads, Frankie loses her way whilst returning from visiting her mum Joyce, and with little visibility, ends up causing another car to career of the road. The driver is none other than Roux. With both cars unusable and miles away from the village, the two set off on foot to find somewhere to stay. The first house they come across is empty, but having looked after this house for the owner in the past, Frankie know’s where the spare key is and the two let themselves in.When the storm doesn’t pass for a few days, and the two of them are stuck in the house with no access to the outside world, panic ensues, largely for Roux as the press get wind of his disappearance and descend on the village causing carnage, especially when his uptight, spoilt brat of an ex-fiancée arrives, declaring her love for him, and putting out an appeal for his safe return. This is the first book that Lynda has written under her alias, Amy Perfect. The way Lynda describes the village of little Perran puts you in the perfect mood for Christmas, with the cold wind and snow on the floor.Roux Lockhart, although a film star is after a quiet life and wants to step away from the limelight. He has decided that this will be his last movie. He’s a very private person who’s still reeling from his break up with his fiancée Sasha.Frankie is an exceptionally caring and emotional young woman, although a little stubborn a times. She also is nursing a broken heart after her boyfriend Paul took off to Australia with another woman.Frankie helps to look after her mum Joyce, who lives in the closest nursing home to the village. Joyce suffers with dementia and doesn’t recognise Frankie any more. It’s heart-wrenching to feel the pain that Frankie feels about the situation with her mother. It must be devastating for a child, no matter what age, to lose a parent, mentally to this cruel disease. Lynda has written the emotional scenes with Joyce incredibly accurately, using her own experience to make these scenes as realistic as possible. The village is filled with loveable characters, all with completely different personalities, mainly engaging harmoniously with one another, with the exception of a couple of people. This is a perfect Christmas read, filled with drama, romance and humour. I was glued to the pages and found myself wandering through the village of Little Perran and into Roux and Frankie’s lives, hoping that the two of them would realise that they were in love, especially Frankie, who needs to put herself on a pedestal and stop thinking so little of herself.Take a trip to Little Perran join in with the Christmas festivities without leaving the comfort of your own home.

Also Writing Under The Name Amy Perfect.I spent my evening curled up with Holly my cat reading: A Christmas Romance after the Author kindly sent me a review copy. I very much enjoyed this book, it is the perfect romantic Christmas story to read on a cold and breezy night. Not only does this book have great characters to follow, but the English village of Little Perran setting seemed very beautiful and Christmas like. This book also has some scenes that really pulls at the heart string and reminds oneself just how important family and community is around the festive season. The story itself was about Frankie Bell as she prepares Aunty Rose’s house for the famous Roux Lockhart to stay over Christmas. While she is getting the place ready he show up and they have a moment and from then the wheels are in motion. Could his stay spell Christmas love for them both or leave them feeling the frost of the snow instead? Read this amazing Christmas book to find out.The one thing I loved about this story because it brought tears to my eyes and made me smile too was Joyce Frankie’s mum. She was a very well written character with a heart of gold. I could really feel the sadness of her barely remembering Frankie and the joy in those moments when things changed a little. I think those scenes for me made this book all the more special for Christmas, because love for family is really special. I also like Birdie her best friend another great example of a kind and caring person.I liked to dislike Paul, he was one of those character that had me yelling at my kindle, because he got my blood boiling and not in the cosy sense. The end of this book is very heart-warming in many ways. Lynda does a great job at bringing out the warmth in her character and the meaning of the festive season. Once you’ve read this book you’ll wish the time wouldn’t have gone so fast, while immersed in this magical and heart-warming story.I would recommend this book to anyone who love great character and a Christmas read over the season to warm the heart before it really is Christmas day.

By Ali - The Dragon Slayer I needed a book to read while undergoing some horrible hospital treatment & this was absolutely perfect .. it was engaging enough to keep my mind occupied but light & breezy enough to make me smile. The story is set in Little Perran (even the name conjures up bliss) .. it centres around Frankie who works in the local library, she has some wonderful friends in the village which is a tight knit community. Frankie lives with her adorable dog Buster he is the only male company she needs after having her heart broken. In the run up to the festive season it soon becomes known that a ‘film star’ is coming to the village & will be staying in the cottage which belongs to Frankie’s aunt. Roux is charming, caring & is drawn to Frankie .. will fate throw them together?I really liked the majority of the characters they all had endearing features apart from Paul (the ex) the relationship Frankie has with her mum is particularly poignant & pulls on the heartstrings. We have a cake competition, a fancy dress ball, plenty of snow, power cuts, wine, mince pies & drama all nicely wound up in a fabulous Christmas themed story. If you are looking for some romance & entertainment then give this a go you will be glad you did. Thanks very much to Lynda for gifting me a copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Journey to Star Wars: The Force Awakens with this exclusive ebook short story set shortly before the events of the film, featuring a quick-witted mercenary who takes big risks for bigger rewards—and now faces the challenge that will take her to the edge.   There are plenty of mercenaries, spies, and guns for hire in the galaxy. But probably none as dangerous and determined as Bazine Netal. A master of disguise—and lethal with a blade, a blaster, or bare handed—she learned from the best. Now it’s her turn to be the teacher—even if schooling an eager but inexperienced recruit in the tricks of her trade is the last thing she wants to do. But it’s the only way to score the ship she needs to pull off her latest job.   An anonymous client has hired Bazine to track down an ex-stormtrooper and recover the mysterious package he’s safeguarding. Payment for the mission promises to be astronomical, but the obstacles facing Bazine will prove to be formidable. And though her eager new sidekick has cyber skills crucial to the mission, only Bazine’s razor-sharp talents will mean the difference between success or failure—and life or death.

Fun Tie-In for The Force Awakens By Skuldren For those who have been following along with The Force Awakens coverage, Bazine is the court jester like female draped in that big hulking Bossk like alien’s lap. In “The Perfect Weapon”, we get to find out about her background and how she wound up being a mercenary. We get some glimpses insider he head and at her personality. Plus, we get to see her in action. The gist of the story is that Bazine is hired to retrieve a case. The catch is that someone else is after the case, so it’s a race. Who is the other operative? Who can she trust? And what exactly is in the case she’s sent to retrieve? Those questions and more drive the story along as the characters are fleshed out and put into action. As a long time Star Wars reader, I enjoyed this story. It reminded me of the old Tales of books filled with short stories that expanded on the minor characters from the films. While “The Perfect Weapon” is only one story, it has that same feel. According to the eBook details, the story is 60 pages in length, so it’s a couple hours worth of reading and about twice as long as the short stories from the Tales of books. At only a couple bucks, it’s worth it.For Dawson’s first journey into Star Wars storytelling, I think she did a good job with “The Perfect Weapon”. With just 60 pages to work with, it has some nice character exploration and bits of action. While she does use a massive McGuffin as part of the story, it still played out well. I’d love to see her take on some more Star Wars stories, and I think Bazine would be a cool character to follow up on. Most likely we won’t see much of the character in the movie, so it’s not like the story will be vital to the film, but with all books being canon, it will be fun to see that character on screen and to know a bit more about her than everyone else in the theater. For kicking out a fun tie-in story for The Force Awakens, I give “The Perfect Weapon” a five out of five.

It fleshes out an intriguing minor character from the Force Awakens in a way that not only makes you excited to see the film, but makes you eager to read more about this character for years to come. The Perfect Weapon delivers. It succeeds in adding intrigue, suspense, and excitement to the minds of the Star Wars fans hungry for more to chew on.In many ways, I feel like the Perfect Weapon sets up Bazine to be the Boba Fett of the sequel trilogy. Only time will tell. But as of reading this substantial short story, I’m aboard the hype train for my new favorite female bounty hunter in the galaxy.

It takes the reader into the darker side of life in the New Republic and introduces them to a woman who lives as a spy and a mercenary. There is no mention of the force or of any of the standard things you might see in any star wars tale outside of the occasionally technology or racial reference. What you are left with is a gritty, action packed story with a dark but likable protagonist and supporting characters that balance her out nicely. The only reason I didn't give it a full five stars is that I did see one particular plot twist coming, but that could just be me. Overall, a great, well told tale that does an admirable job of introducing Bazine Netal to the fans.
