The power play of wills and the heart By Gillone Washington I have to say that I am completely enthralled with Sarah Brooks 'Storm series 'she truly doesn't disappoint the reader.Senator Matthew Storm has a strong alliance with Michaela the women that's his employee and secret lover, Kyla has a power grip on Matthew that renders him speechless at times,in the very beginning things between them seemed to be simpler and a little less complicated but what is happening is the question of the day. Lately Kayla feels like she's being played by Matthew and it's not settling well with her ,Kayla is starting to feel deeply for Matthew and he's not willing to give back what she wants without him losing his focus for his quest for the White House.On the other hand the very married and ambitious Senator Masson has his eyes set on another price,which happens to be the lovely Michaela,how will all of this play out and who out of the three will win the ultimate prize , the power of wills and the heart. By Sherry Jensen Senator Matthew Storm goes out of town to visit his district in Illinois. He expects Kayla to talk to Senator Masson to run for house speaker. Kayla however , is not sure what her future is with Matthew and flirts with Senator Masson. She is sure that either senator Masson or Matthew will end up in "The White House" so she is hedging her bets as she is not going to let Matthew use her and then throw her away. Matthew Storm returns and gives Kayla a gift of an apartment even tho he didn't as much as text or call her while he was gone. They have sex in the apartment and Kayla is certain Matthew will leave her alone again since he used her but Matthew surprises her by spending the night. She is convinced that she and Matthew make a great team and Washington will not know what has hit them.This is an honest review for an ARC from the author.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Keeps Getting Better By Nikki Brackett I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.Oh how Kayla is getting so bold. She definitely goes for what she wants and seems to hold her own. Everyone is mesmerized by her ability to be that way with her only being in her position for just a short amount of time. Her and Matthew work well together and they are going to definitely blow Washington away with their teamwork. The fact they both want such promising strong careers in politics will make this relationship so much more than just about work. Matthew wanted a woman that shared his same likes and wants well he has now discovered that with Kayla. But Matthew at the end of this book has shown already that this relationship is becoming so much more than he planned. Can't wait to read the next one.

I hate it when a story is unnecessarily dragged out by misunderstandings between the mail characters; this was not the case in this book. Loved Adelaide, loved John. Loved the older couple. Loved the happy ending.

After the mill burns, her stepfather is more adamant that she finally marry. The only way to escape is to become a mail-order bride.John Rivers had no immediate plans to take a wife. He wanted to be sure that he was able to take care of her beyond the shadow of a doubt. But he also has meddlers in his life, who just want to make him happy and believe that once he gets a wife, his life and attitude will change for the better.There is more going on in the background when Adelaide arrives and finds herself in the middle between two bachelors. In order to protect Adelaide, John agrees to marry her that day. From then on, they have to figure out their relationship.I really liked the drama that was happening in this book and how their lives were depicted on the Montana ranch & the difficulties facing free-range to fenced land in those days.

Again this book has no details nor dialogue. It's a jumbled mess that jumps around without telling the reader much. Just the worst! Then let's discuss things that don't make sense. 1) Michigan who is engaged suddenly is a physco who harbors secret love for Blake and therefore kept up a pretend friendship with Katelyn who didn't even know Blake? What?!? 2) Michigan tells Blake the investigation will end after 48 hours because they don't have anything to go on. He believes her even though there was blood found. 3) Katelyn was an unknown geek but now suddenly she has stalkers galore? 4) Blake fights for their relationship until katelyn decides it's worth it then suddenly he's unsure? 5) there's a point where Blake tells katelyn he loves her "for the first time" but I distinctly remember at least 2 other times they've mentioned love to each other.And that is where I stopped reading. Thank goodness I didn't pay for these books or I would have demanded my money back.

Hard to fathom who would want to bring harm to Katelyn, a college chem student? I love following Blake’s quest to make the transition to the NFL. Really interesting to go through the draft with Blake. I’m rooting for Blake and Katelyn as they get ready to move beyond college. Highly recommend.

Katelyn and Blake are trying to survive threats that keep following Katelyn. Life after college is looking sweet for Katelyn but not Blake. Their love is being tested big time. Good thing that both of them are tough. Can’t wait to read more and find out what is in store for them after college.

Thomas "Tom" Sawyer is the title character of the Mark Twain novel THE ADVENTURES OF TOM SAWYER (1876). He appears in three other novels by Twain: ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN (1884), TOM SAWYER ABROAD (1894), and TOM SAWYER, DETECTIVE (1896). Sawyer also appears in at least three unfinished Twain works, HUCK AND TOM AMONG THE INDIANS, SCHOOLHOUSE HILL and TOM SAWYER'S CONSPIRACY. While all three uncompleted works were posthumously published, only Tom Sawyer's Conspiracy has a complete plot, as Twain abandoned the other two works after finishing only a few chapters.The fictional character's name may have been derived from a jolly and flamboyant fireman named Tom Sawyer with whom Twain was acquainted in San Francisco, California, while Twain was employed as a reporter at the San Francisco Call. Twain used to listen to Sawyer tell stories of his youth, "Sam, he would listen to these pranks of mine with great interest and he'd occasionally take 'em down in his notebook. One day he says to me: 'I am going to put you between the covers of a book some of these days, Tom.' 'Go ahead, Sam,' I said, 'but don't disgrace my name.' " Twain himself said the character sprang from three people, later identified as: John B. From School Library Journal Grade 5 Up-British actor Mike McShane provides a superb portrayal of Mark Twain's classic characters, nailing the Mississippi drawl and cadence. For those who know and love the story or are following along with an unabridged edition, however, this production is marred somewhat by what the publisher has chosen to leave out. The more descriptive chapters are shortened or expurgated entirely, which is understandable in the interest of editing for time. Some of the more distasteful racial epithets are gone as well, although Injun Joe retains his moniker. Sid and Mary are also cut entirely, as well as references to smoking, slavery, most of Tom's ludicrously funny romantic notions about the violence inflicted by pirates and robbers, and even the naked figure in the schoolmaster's anatomy book. The result is a watered down Tom and, especially, Huck. The ending also lacks the satisfaction of the original version. The party scene where the fortune is revealed has been cut as has Twain's concluding paragraphs which "endeth this chronicle." It lacks even the closure of the customary, "You have been listening to-." The sturdy plastic case will survive many circulations. Fraley's performance is something more; in attempting to bring each character to life, his enthusiasm for the material is so palpable that the mere sound of his voice commands attention. Frank This review applies specifically to the April 2010, Sterling Edition, illustrated by Robert Ingpen:I'm beginning to feel quite frustrated with the limited publishing information given to books on Amazon. For example, most books where you may click to "look inside" will default to the most common paperback. For books like Tom Sawyer, that is fine if you need the book for high school English class, where any copy cheap enough to write notes in the margins will do. I wanted a copy of Tom Sawyer to keep and love. I saw this publication on Amazon, but it had so little info and the one review given was a single sentence about the general value of Twain's story. The truth is, one doesn't buy this particular printing unless one is already convinced of it's literary excellency! So I am about to do Amazon a huge favor by telling you what it didn't tell me. For about $15, the asking price at the time of this review, you can invest in a real treat for your self or someone you love and wish to inspire.This printing was meant to mark the one hundredth anniversary of Twain's death (2010). The story is unabridged, provided in full original text. It is positively rich with watercolor illustrations by Robert Ingpen. I just skimmed through the book looking for one that I especially liked, but I couldn't pick just one. In design, they are exactly as I would have dreamed them to be. Barefoot Tom, balancing a piece of straw on his nose, Huck Finn with a dead cat, Tom and puppy in church, Injun Joe- terrifying....each one pulls me in to read the text. The fabulous, wrapping cover art is also printed at the end of the book, so won't be lost if the dust jacket is damaged. The sewn binding is well constructed and the book lays nearly flat when open, so you may enjoy all of the pictures and layout without damaging the book. The inclusion of a pale blue place marking ribbon is a lovely touch. There is a thoughtful biography of Mark Twain proceeding the story. Also, provided are the author's and illustrators notes.I have a boy, six going on seven. He is a reader and is happy to consume Magic Tree House and Box Car Children books at alarming speed under the covers at night when he is supposed to be asleep. I'll admit I was missing our former habit of reading together. So we read classics aloud together as a family. For less money than a video game this book will provide hours of family entertainment. I hope my son will be inspired to read it again and again. It will have a place in our library and be a reference for years to come. It is heirloom quality. It would make a very special gift to a favorite boy of any age. In fact, I am considering getting another copy for my father, who loves Twain. Incidentally, not being able to ascertain the quality of this book through the Amazon web site, I went to a little local bookstore where I could put my hands on it first. I ended up buying it there, paying full price- about $5 more than Amazon was asking. They wrapped the book for free in nice heavy paper and since there was no shipping- I think I came out better for it. Before my son had opened this package, he knew it was a book to be awed by. Awesome it is- mostly for Mark Twains' masterful kntting of prose, but also for the cover and publishing.

Davis The Adventures of Tom Sawyer: Unabridged and IllustratedThe Adventures of Tom Sawyer that I bought from amazon.com is a paperback Piccadilly Classics (Unabridged and Illustrated) edition, written by Mark Twain (Samuel Langborne Clemens) and illustrated by T. Williams, and published by Piccadilly Books, Ltd. copyright 2010.I am VERY pleased with this edition's keeping to the Mark Twain's original manuscript and the use of (from my understanding...and by the looks of it) wonderfully-used original illustrations. I mean, really, the size of the book, typeface and insertion of the illustrations are artfully done and flow very nicely.The thing that makes me sick about this book, is that it is less than 1-month old and falling apart DURING my first reading of it. Such a fun, beautiful and timeless book deserves to be printed accordingly. A classic deserves a matching binding and cover quality that will withstand numerous generations of readers effortlessly.Specific problems I have had with my copy include: (1) The pages are bound together unevenly. I had a mind just to send the book back to amazon when I saw this flaw, because I knew they would right the problem immediately. My kids saw some of the illustrations and cover, however, and were so ready for me to read it NOW, that I kept it and decided it would just be an imperfect addition to our library. But more imperfections promptly presented themselves. (2) Because of the uneven binding job, the cover tore at the bottom where there are no pages to hold it up (the unevenly bound pages "slant" to full starting at the front cover back). (3) The cheaply-laminated cover has ALREADY started curling apart at both corners (front and back), and in the middle (front and back), where I hold the book to read it.This edition was unfortunately not available in hardcover. I would LOVE a hardcover, quality copy of this specific edition!

41 of 45 people found the following review helpful. Censorship an Mark Twain By Susan Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn certainly rank among the very finest fiction in the American literary canon. Only fools would suggest otherwise. Unfortunately, other fools have censored both books. This is an obscenity. Do these morons actually think that they need to protect the reading public from ideas that were the cultural norm 175 years ago? What unmitigated, insufferable, ignominious gall. Thankfully, Amazon can still provide us with the original versions of these brilliant books. The suggestion that reading Twain in his original prose somehow endangers the public good is both specious and ridiculous. So, then, if we read Lolita will we become pedophiles? If we read Pound will we become fascists? If we read Portnoy's Complaint will we masturbate constantly? The exquisite sensitivity of some groups within our society says more about their determined unwillingness to embrace the freedom and democracy they enjoy than anything else. To hell with them. Buy these wonderful books and read them guilt-free.
