Prequel to the USA TODAY BESTSELLER 'Happily Ever Ninja' What do a cynical former Marine and a sheltered former Olympic contender have in common? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. He has a girlfriend and she’s never been kissed. He’s sullenly sarcastic and she’s earnestly empathetic. He can’t stop thinking about her. She knows she should keep her distance. Nevertheless, when opposites attract, the results may be unexpected, but they’re also undeniably magnetic. ‘Ninja at First Sight’ is a standalone, prequel novella (for book 5 of the Knitting in the City Series, ‘Happily Ever Ninja’) and is 40k words.

Gorilla McGee Ninja at First Sight is a prequel to Penny Reid's book Happily Ever Ninja. The first half (or so) of this story appeared in P.R.'s Scenes From The City. If you didn't pick up 'Scenes' I feel bad for you because it was great and it's no longer available. Sorry. But, because Penny Reid is cool and knew everyone needed to know how freaking AMAZING Greg and Fiona were 'back in the day', she generously expanded upon and released their origin story for everyone.AND IT IS AWESOME!We learn that Fiona was as kind and thoughtful and intelligent when she was younger as she is in the future. Her soulful eyes and wise and watchful presence attract Greg. Greg, whose sense of humor is caustic and sarcastic, dry and wry, is always good for a shock-filled laugh, but underneath he's serious, driven and worldly."This is my chance to ruin you for anyone else.""By telling me all about how terrible you are?""By being honest. By playing no games. When I tell you that I am a selfish bastard, I mean it. And when I tell you that you're wonderful and amazing and stunning and definitely the most extraordinary woman I've ever met, you'll know I mean that, too."Greg is too smart and jaded for the college kids he's surrounded by and he's also insanely funny. But Fiona, despite her very shy demeanor, is pretty damn funny and quick, too so she makes a great match for him.I didn't want this to end, I could happily read about Greg and Fiona forever and ever. Luckily, there's a sneak peek to the first chapter of Happily Ever Ninja and I was sucked in! I also howled in despair when it was done and I had to face reality that it was only a sneak peek. DANG IT!If you want me to give it to you straight, I'll tell you that you don't HAVE TO read this between #4 and #5. Just like you didn't HAVE TO read Scenes From the City. BUT your life will be so much more enriched and fun and glorious if you do. Every one needs more of the Knitting crew and Greg is not to be missed--He's (MARK MY WORDS, HERE) going to be your book boyfriend for all of eternity. No, scratch that! "Your BOOK HUSBAND for all of eternity."

By Feeding My Addiction Book Reviews I know I say this about most every Penny Reid book, but I mean it this time… the story of Fiona and Greg is my favorite ever from Penny Reid!In this prequel standalone novella for Knitting in the City book 5, 'Happily Ever Ninja', Reid is crafting one of the most romantic love stories I have ever read. It is, without doubt, that Fiona and Greg will be one of my favorite couples in my reading experience. Their mutual respect, admiration and love is refreshing. I imagine there will be many single, and not single, women wishing for a man like Greg! He is strong, dominant, brilliant, and incredibly romantic.❝And when you were nineteen you were harmless?❞❝You know better, Darling. I’ve never been harmless. And it’s a good thing too, because you don’t want harmless.❞Their discussions are not just funny, they are witty, and sexy. Two brains coming together challenging one another… I am not sure there is anything sexier than that?❝But if you truly own her, own her heart, if she is truly yours, abandoned to you, you cannot discard her. She is where she belongs, hence the ownership.❞❝Possessions don’t have thoughts or feelings; they’re inanimate objects.❞❝Ah, but the women are never inanimate, not the way I do it.❞Swoon!Have you ever read a book and felt like you gained new brain cells? That just by reading it, you were suddenly smarter? That’s what happens when I read a Penny Reid book. Her characters are intelligent. When they argue, they use logic. When they talk, they use words that, often times, this college educated woman needs to use a dictionary to understand. Their words aren’t lazy, they are clear, and descriptive. Their intelligence does not allow for arbitrary plot devices. Instead, Reid’s stories are romantic and realistic. I can read a book from her and think, “Yep, that could totally happen.”, or “Wow, that is similar too…” The story of Greg and Fiona is a perfect example. In Ninja at First Sight, the story is simple, yet realistic. Two young adults meet at college and fall in love. What made this story different from other college romance novels, was the ‘way’ they fell in love. I felt like I was a fly on the wall intruding on special moments. Because I ‘felt’ it happen, that moment when they realized they loved each other. This is a relationship built on mutual respect and admiration. Instantly, they realized they were attracted to each other. Yet, the slow burn of their relationship was perfect.❝Prepare yourself to be kissed now.❞There was never a doubt about Greg’s devotion to Fiona. He was passionate. He was protective and loyal. And he took his time getting to know her. He loved her mind and body and spirit.Fiona was equally as passionate, yet not as worldly as Greg. At 18, she felt lost in social situations as well as relationships. So it took her time to understand what she was feeling, to put a label on it.I read the first part of this in Scenes from the City, so much more was added, making this story even more stunning. This story captured the essence of a relationship, the spark of romance, and the excitement of first love. I am anxiously awaiting Happily Ever Ninja.ARC graciously given by Penny Reid!!

I was so excited when I opened my email this week to see Ninja at First Sight waiting for me. Oh Greg and Fiona I cannot wait for your full length book! It will be amazing!!Those of you who have read their story from Scenes from the City know Greg and Fiona. Know how they met and how amazingly awesome Greg is. If you have read the other Knitting in the City books you know Fiona a little better, but she has always been a bit mysterious to me. She is already married in the other books while everyone else in the knitting group is looking for love. I am excited to read her story as a married lady, but even more so now that I have read this. Greg + Fiona = All the wins! For those of you who are new to Penny, or didn't get Scenes from the City when it was available, now if your chance to get to know these wonderful characters. The beginning of Ninja at First Sight is the story from Scenes from the City, so if you missed that you can get all caught up. I don't know how Penny manages to make so many people I wish I knew in real life. So many people who I just want to hang out and be bff with. I love it.Greg and Fiona are perfect together. Fiona is this somewhat sheltered girl who doesn't have a lot of real life experience and is a little awkward with human interactions. She loves to study people and is super smart and just awesome. I loved seeing what she was like when she was younger. And Greg? Greg is...I think Fiona describes him best"He was awful. He was irreverent and offensive and abrasive, and, for some strange reason which should have alarmed me, I found him completely enchanting."That is him. He doesn't always say appropriate things, can be quite offensive, can be really argumentative, can say things that should drive me crazy, but I loved him. I wish I knew him in real life. He is that guy that loves to debate things, that loves to push people to think more critically about what they think and not just accept everything as fact. Not that I think I could keep up with him as he is a pro debater, but that is why he has Fiona. The back and forth between them is amazing. The things Greg says, oh I loved it. This book is hilarious, I laughed out loud at parts. But also sweet, and touching, and kind. Penny really knows how to get that mix of a little bit of everything that really makes the story great. Even when Greg should drive you crazy, even when you should be angry with him, he does something that just make it so you can't help but smile. You can't help but love him. He is awful, but completely enchanting. And that ending? Absolutely perfect. I know I wanted to keep reading about Greg and Fiona forever, but it has to end sometime and that was the best. Now to wait for Happily Ever Ninja...This review was originally posted to Jen in Bookland
