The story does not get astray in unbelievable sexual encounters. Laran Mithras is a good story teller...combining the anticipation of an illicit affair with the final great portrait of that union, but surprises us with what happens next.

Prequel to the USA TODAY BESTSELLER 'Happily Ever Ninja' What do a cynical former Marine and a sheltered former Olympic contender have in common? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. He has a girlfriend and she’s never been kissed. He’s sullenly sarcastic and she’s earnestly empathetic. He can’t stop thinking about her. She knows she should keep her distance. Nevertheless, when opposites attract, the results may be unexpected, but they’re also undeniably magnetic. ‘Ninja at First Sight’ is a standalone, prequel novella (for book 5 of the Knitting in the City Series, ‘Happily Ever Ninja’) and is 40k words.

Gorilla McGee Ninja at First Sight is a prequel to Penny Reid's book Happily Ever Ninja. The first half (or so) of this story appeared in P.R.'s Scenes From The City. If you didn't pick up 'Scenes' I feel bad for you because it was great and it's no longer available. Sorry. But, because Penny Reid is cool and knew everyone needed to know how freaking AMAZING Greg and Fiona were 'back in the day', she generously expanded upon and released their origin story for everyone.AND IT IS AWESOME!We learn that Fiona was as kind and thoughtful and intelligent when she was younger as she is in the future. Her soulful eyes and wise and watchful presence attract Greg. Greg, whose sense of humor is caustic and sarcastic, dry and wry, is always good for a shock-filled laugh, but underneath he's serious, driven and worldly."This is my chance to ruin you for anyone else.""By telling me all about how terrible you are?""By being honest. By playing no games. When I tell you that I am a selfish bastard, I mean it. And when I tell you that you're wonderful and amazing and stunning and definitely the most extraordinary woman I've ever met, you'll know I mean that, too."Greg is too smart and jaded for the college kids he's surrounded by and he's also insanely funny. But Fiona, despite her very shy demeanor, is pretty damn funny and quick, too so she makes a great match for him.I didn't want this to end, I could happily read about Greg and Fiona forever and ever. Luckily, there's a sneak peek to the first chapter of Happily Ever Ninja and I was sucked in! I also howled in despair when it was done and I had to face reality that it was only a sneak peek. DANG IT!If you want me to give it to you straight, I'll tell you that you don't HAVE TO read this between #4 and #5. Just like you didn't HAVE TO read Scenes From the City. BUT your life will be so much more enriched and fun and glorious if you do. Every one needs more of the Knitting crew and Greg is not to be missed--He's (MARK MY WORDS, HERE) going to be your book boyfriend for all of eternity. No, scratch that! "Your BOOK HUSBAND for all of eternity."

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. My favorite couple, yet! By Feeding My Addiction Book Reviews I know I say this about most every Penny Reid book, but I mean it this time… the story of Fiona and Greg is my favorite ever from Penny Reid!In this prequel standalone novella for Knitting in the City book 5, 'Happily Ever Ninja', Reid is crafting one of the most romantic love stories I have ever read. It is, without doubt, that Fiona and Greg will be one of my favorite couples in my reading experience. Their mutual respect, admiration and love is refreshing. I imagine there will be many single, and not single, women wishing for a man like Greg! He is strong, dominant, brilliant, and incredibly romantic.❝And when you were nineteen you were harmless?❞❝You know better, Darling. I’ve never been harmless. And it’s a good thing too, because you don’t want harmless.❞Their discussions are not just funny, they are witty, and sexy. Two brains coming together challenging one another… I am not sure there is anything sexier than that?❝But if you truly own her, own her heart, if she is truly yours, abandoned to you, you cannot discard her. She is where she belongs, hence the ownership.❞❝Possessions don’t have thoughts or feelings; they’re inanimate objects.❞❝Ah, but the women are never inanimate, not the way I do it.❞Swoon!Have you ever read a book and felt like you gained new brain cells? That just by reading it, you were suddenly smarter? That’s what happens when I read a Penny Reid book. Her characters are intelligent. When they argue, they use logic. When they talk, they use words that, often times, this college educated woman needs to use a dictionary to understand. Their words aren’t lazy, they are clear, and descriptive. Their intelligence does not allow for arbitrary plot devices. Instead, Reid’s stories are romantic and realistic. I can read a book from her and think, “Yep, that could totally happen.”, or “Wow, that is similar too…” The story of Greg and Fiona is a perfect example. In Ninja at First Sight, the story is simple, yet realistic. Two young adults meet at college and fall in love. What made this story different from other college romance novels, was the ‘way’ they fell in love. I felt like I was a fly on the wall intruding on special moments. Because I ‘felt’ it happen, that moment when they realized they loved each other. This is a relationship built on mutual respect and admiration. Instantly, they realized they were attracted to each other. Yet, the slow burn of their relationship was perfect.❝Prepare yourself to be kissed now.❞There was never a doubt about Greg’s devotion to Fiona. He was passionate. He was protective and loyal. And he took his time getting to know her. He loved her mind and body and spirit.Fiona was equally as passionate, yet not as worldly as Greg. At 18, she felt lost in social situations as well as relationships. So it took her time to understand what she was feeling, to put a label on it.I read the first part of this in Scenes from the City, so much more was added, making this story even more stunning. This story captured the essence of a relationship, the spark of romance, and the excitement of first love. I am anxiously awaiting Happily Ever Ninja.ARC graciously given by Penny Reid!!

I was so excited when I opened my email this week to see Ninja at First Sight waiting for me. Oh Greg and Fiona I cannot wait for your full length book! It will be amazing!!Those of you who have read their story from Scenes from the City know Greg and Fiona. Know how they met and how amazingly awesome Greg is. If you have read the other Knitting in the City books you know Fiona a little better, but she has always been a bit mysterious to me. She is already married in the other books while everyone else in the knitting group is looking for love. I am excited to read her story as a married lady, but even more so now that I have read this. Greg + Fiona = All the wins! For those of you who are new to Penny, or didn't get Scenes from the City when it was available, now if your chance to get to know these wonderful characters. The beginning of Ninja at First Sight is the story from Scenes from the City, so if you missed that you can get all caught up. I don't know how Penny manages to make so many people I wish I knew in real life. So many people who I just want to hang out and be bff with. I love it.Greg and Fiona are perfect together. Fiona is this somewhat sheltered girl who doesn't have a lot of real life experience and is a little awkward with human interactions. She loves to study people and is super smart and just awesome. I loved seeing what she was like when she was younger. And Greg? Greg is...I think Fiona describes him best"He was awful. He was irreverent and offensive and abrasive, and, for some strange reason which should have alarmed me, I found him completely enchanting."That is him. He doesn't always say appropriate things, can be quite offensive, can be really argumentative, can say things that should drive me crazy, but I loved him. I wish I knew him in real life. He is that guy that loves to debate things, that loves to push people to think more critically about what they think and not just accept everything as fact. Not that I think I could keep up with him as he is a pro debater, but that is why he has Fiona. The back and forth between them is amazing. The things Greg says, oh I loved it. This book is hilarious, I laughed out loud at parts. But also sweet, and touching, and kind. Penny really knows how to get that mix of a little bit of everything that really makes the story great. Even when Greg should drive you crazy, even when you should be angry with him, he does something that just make it so you can't help but smile. You can't help but love him. He is awful, but completely enchanting. And that ending? Absolutely perfect. I know I wanted to keep reading about Greg and Fiona forever, but it has to end sometime and that was the best. Now to wait for Happily Ever Ninja...This review was originally posted to Jen in Bookland

Mercy is a sleepy town in Massachusetts. According to the locals it was founded as a safe haven by the survivors of the Salem witch trials. Olivia West hadn’t set foot in Mercy since the night her Father murdered her mother and had no intention of ever returning despite being a direct descendant of one of the original founders, but when she unexpectedly inherits a house by the lake she finds she has no choice. The closer she gets to the town the more she can feel a strange pull, calling to her blood...someone or something wants her to come home.   When the bodies of missing residents are discovered in the woods near her house, it becomes clear there’s a killer on the loose who seems to have taken an unhealthy interest in Olivia. What is even more disturbing is that each victim is marked with some kind of supernatural brand. To make matters worse it appears that the murders are almost identical to a spate of killings twenty years earlier which mysteriously stopped after her father’s arrest.   Theodore Beckett is a young witch finder from seventeenth century Salem who has been hiding a huge secret from his strict puritan family. He has dreams, strange visions which have an alarming tendency to come true. But when he finds himself pulled abruptly through time by a mysterious stranger to be dropped in the middle of twenty first century Mercy, Theo realises the woman he has been sent there to help is the woman he has seen in his dreams all his life.   Olivia and Theo must find a way to trust each other when they are suddenly thrown together into a world of murder and magic. It becomes clear there is something dark stirring in the woods and the murders are only just the beginning.   It is all connected like a giant web spun from centuries of lies, murder and magic and it all keeps coming back to her family at the heart of it. Olivia can no longer ignore her past but must discover her family’s true legacy starting with what really happened the night her mother died.   Together Olivia and Theo must stop a murderer and uncover her family’s oldest and darkest secret, to prevent a demon from rising...and time is running out.

There was a few editing issues but the story kept you wanting to know what happens next. Ms. Sanders did a excellent job of keeping you guessing and the ending was not what you were expecting. I can't wait to read the next book in the series and to see what Olivia and Theo will be up against in the next book.

It has all the makings of a great read: mystery By BookJunkie411 I want to put a disclaimer right from the beginning: This book has a lot of graphic sex scenes in it. (I skipped over those)I have been pondering how I would review this novel. It's not my normal genre that I read. That being said, this book was exciting, well written, descriptive without being too wordy, and overall a roller coaster ride!It is a murder mystery of epic proportions. It has all the makings of a great read: mystery, romance, and magic.I expect this book to go far!

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. MERCY - FAIRLY DONE By Lesley Vandegrift MERCY is a fairly well done supernatural thriller, building to a tense climax that will surprise you. Most characters are well fleshed, a few a bit cardboard. My only nitpick is that the character from the past caught up way too quickly, even having sex with a woman he hardly knew.

Best Ebook Online The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Wisehouse Classics Edition), by Mark Twain

THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN is a novel by Mark Twain, first published in the United Kingdom in December 1884 and in the United States in February 1885. Commonly named among the Great American Novels, the work is among the first in major American literature to be written throughout in vernacular English, characterized by local color regionalism. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry "Huck" Finn, a friend of Tom Sawyer and narrator of two other Twain novels (Tom Sawyer Abroad and Tom Sawyer, Detective). It is a direct sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The book is noted for its colorful description of people and places along the Mississippi River. Set in a Southern antebellum society that had ceased to exist about twenty years before the work was published, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is an often scathing satire on entrenched attitudes, particularly racism.Perennially popular with readers, ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN has also been the continued object of study by literary critics since its publication. It was criticized upon release because of its coarse language and became even more controversial in the 20th century because of its perceived use of racial stereotypes and because of its frequent use of the racial slur "nigger", despite strong arguments that the protagonist and the tenor of the book are anti-racist. (more at wisehouse-classics.com)

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. It's a classic for a reason. This is not the lame editted version. By Obi Wan The magic of Huckleberry Finn is the internal development of the characters. A boy who grows up knowing nothing but the irrational distaste of others who look different than himself can hardly be to blame to his attitudes. After all, it's all he knows or was ever taught. Huck Finn learns to push aside those prejudices all on his own through personal interaction with his new friend Jim.Mark Twain was diligently trying to make the point that the world wouldn't end if a white kid becomes friends with a black guy. (There are more underlying themes. But that main one is pretty overt.) He lived in a time where this was downright unheard of in parts of the country. This was a political and social statement. But some people are, for lack of better terms, shortsighted and stupid. This book has been banned so many times since it was written for so many different reasons it's just ridiculous. It's often been people's favorite book to hate. They see a book that has some words that offend them, or some ideas that offend them and assume the entire book is too racist, or not racist enough, or that it perpetuates unholy ideas of inclusion, or that using certain words in it make it evil, etc etc etc......so that should be properly disposed of at the next community book burning. In fact, this book is promoting the value of all people, and pointing out the weakness of all people, showing that none of us are and better or worse than anyone else. This version is not the modernized feel good sterilized version that completely misses the entire point of the story. (There are several of these edited versions on Amazon) This is the original, best as I can tell. A quick search of the text shows 212 instances of the 'offending' word that is the current trendy reason to hate this book. If you've missed that controversy don't worry, in 25 years there will be an all new reason that people think this book will be the downfall of civilization. (Morons are nothing if not creative)So read this one with confidence that you're getting the good version that might give you an interesting insight into humanity. You aren't getting the sterile version that's boring and teaches you nothing. On top of all that deeper meaning stuff, it's a really entertaining story on the surface.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Excellent digital edition. By M. Oswell An enjoyable book, but my review is about the digital edition. It's so nice to find a well-done digital edition of a public domain book. If you're looking for a good Kindle edition, this is it. The chapters were linked and I noticed only one or two insignificant typos. Good job, Wisehouse Classics.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A true classic in terms of setting, language and speech patterns. By 125Pages Original review @ 125Pages.comI’m not sure how I never read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn before now. I read The Adventures of Tom Sawyer in high school and upon looking on my shelves I discovered I already owned both of them.Finn takes place soon after the events of Sawyer, with both boys wealthy and Finn living with the Widow Davis as his alcoholic father has not been seen in a year. Stifling under the rules, Finn seeks adventure. He rejoices when he is able to sneak past Jim, a slave who keeps watch over the house, to join his friends as they play robbers at night. When his Pap finds out about his windfall, he returns to town seeking the money. He kidnaps Huck and locks him in an isolated cabin. Huck the stages his own death to escape and sets off down the river. He happens upon Jim, who is also running after hearing about plans that he is to be sold. A series of madcap adventures follow, including grifters pretending to be royalty, cross-dressing, family feuds and an elaborate plan to save Jim.This was a hard book to rate as it is not on the same level as current books. The six distinct dialects used made it not flow as modern literature does, but added a unique aspect to each word said. The writing was humorous and full of heart. Yes, at times, the words used do not match what we consider proper, but for the time it is accurate. The plot was all over the place, but always made its way back to Huck at the center. The pacing was quick and the story never lagged.A true classic in terms of setting, language and speech patterns, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is a unique look at a not so shiny time in our country’s past. That being said, the correlation between Huck running from what he considered slavery, and an actual slave running with him for real freedom was powerful. Seen from a child’s eyes, what was normal became unthinkable, as Huck learned to count on Jim. Mark Twain crafted a nuanced picture of such a specific time frame, I think The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn will never not be read by those seeking to understand the past.Favorite lines – It was kind of solemn, drifting down the big, still river, laying on our backs looking up at the stars, and we didn’t ever feel like talking loud, and it warn’t often that we laughed—only a little kind of a low chuckle. We had mighty good weather as a general thing, and nothing ever happened to us at all—that night, nor the next, nor the next.
